Mission Statement

To further the economic development of the community and environs, and with authority to promote and assist this growth and development of small business concerns in our operating area.

Goals & Objectives

  1. Continue to foster the climate for economic development in McPherson County via sponsorship of various economic development initiatives.

    • Continue supporting countywide tourism through McPherson County Tourism, Entertainment Events, Conventions and Historians Committee(McTECH), a division of SBDA. At present the chair of this group is on leave.

    • Improve awareness of the SBDA and enhance its image.

    • Maintain present homepage. Link to several economic development sites. Continue Internet access for the office.

  2. Continue to foster the climate for economic development in McPherson County via financing assistance.

    • Prepare SBA 7a loan applications via SBDA paying the preparation costs.

    • Prepare SBA 504 loan applications via SBDA paying a portion of the preparation costs.

    • Prepare loan applications for the (RECA) Rural Economic and Community Development Agency of USDA.

    • Promote those programs that are offered through SCKEDD as follows:

      • SBA Microloan Demonstration
      • SBA 502
      • Intermediary Relending Program (IRP)
      • Revolving Loan Fund (RLF)
      • Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)

    • Enhance the marketing efforts of loan programs especially toward primary industries or firms that directly support primary industries as defined by the Kansas Department of Commerce & Housing which is as follows-"Primary industry can be defined in terms of the following five general criteria:

      • Design, development or manufacture of products, processes or services that are principally sold outside (over 50%) of the state;
      • Business activities that replace the importation of products of services;
      • Firms that produce raw material, ingredients, or components for other firms that are exporting the majority (over 50%) of their product beyond the boundaries of the state;
      • Regional distribution centers which are used principally (over 50%) for interstate commerce;
      • Corporate multistage headquarters used for the supervision of business activities, when the majority (over 50%) of such business activities (measured in dollars of sales) take place outside the boundaries of the state."

    • Contact and build relationships with all commercial lending institutions in McPherson County.

  3. Continue to build positive relationships with organizations involved in economic development.

    • Invite the advisory board to attend the monthly board of directors business meetings.

    • Meet with both the advisory board and board 2 times.

    • Continue close liaison with the county commissioners and government.

    • Continue close contractual relationship with South Central Kansas Economic Development District (SCKEDD), and explore additional ways of cooperation.

    • Continue membership, meet, and interact with officials of Kansas Association of Certified Development Companies (KACDC).

    • Meet and interact with officials of Kansas Department of Commerce & Housing (KDOC&H).

    • Maintain correspondence from various groups including:

      • The Huck Boyd Institute
      • Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center (MAMTC)
      • Kansas Main Street
      • Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC)
      • Office of Advocacy of SBA
      • National Association of Development Organizations (NADO)
    • Maintain a close working relationship with Small Business Administration (SBA).

    • Meet and work with officials from the RECD.

    • Invite representatives from the following McPherson County economic development groups to serve on the advisory board of SBDA: Chambers of Commerce, McPherson Main Street, Smoky Valley Development, McPherson Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), SCORE, etc. in order to promote cooperation and coordination of various aspects of economic and community development in McPherson County and contiguous counties.
